If ur a novice webmaster or want to make a normal reference based and stylish website, then html is for u.

php and asp is used for creating dynamic website. like this forum.

asp is a microsoft product and php is a open source soft. so rivals.
right now ms dont have dominance in webs so most websites use php.
PHp's power is its speed and low procecing power hunger. on the otherhand ASP is not free(if u forget piracy) and only works in IIS.
PHP works in all webservers.
ASP's power is the easyness. It is written by using either javascript or vbscript.so no need to learn a separate language unlike php.

ight now ASP is backdated as ASP.net has arrived.
so u can forget asp from the contest. the contest is between asp.net,php,jsp and coldfusion.
jsp and coldfusion is not that populer also.
