Exclamation Traditional Norms, Posted July 17th, 2008, 12:41 PM #1 (permalink) |
The House boat Resorts in Kerala gets constructed on the basis of bamboo and coir. It is an amazing craft that is still created and constructed according to the traditional norms. It is really great to see such an age old tradition still alive and is so strictly followed. The houseboat in Kerala is of very huge frameworks that get coated with a caustic black resin extracted from boiled cashew kernels. There is no compromise regarding the construction of this majestic and tremendously huge means of transportation. Everything is done manually. The craft is so dynamic and so strong that all believes and faiths are attached to it for generations.
People who are into this trade of making this houseboat in Kerala are not those who are trained in any particular school. It is a great piece of art that has been followed from one generation to another from times in memorial. The people here are very particular in making it close to the way it was is the primitive and initial days of its use.
Under local speculation this houseboat in Kerala is called kettuvallam has been motorized and is steered in deep waters by means of oars. There are still the applications of long bamboo poles or 'punts' in order to propel in shadow areas. Changes have come back to on the basis of traditional touch. The makers of these houseboats still believe that the additional means are still very strong and effective. As for example the bamboo beams are still very strong for the purpose of sprouting off on the sides. They are also very helpful as foot holds for the same. They use of bamboo is still a very huge in the construction of the framework of the roof. The splits of bamboo are the actual source and the main ingredient for weaving mat for roofing. The crafts are all a part of ritual. They are made with equal importance as any of the worshipping customs. This is how houseboat in Kerala is made so sophisticated.
