JAL

Jal was formed in Lahore in 2002 when Goher Mumtaz composed his first song by the name of " Aadat ". Soon after, began his search for like minded musicians to complete his band. he ran into Shazi (Aamir) as a Bass guitarist and after a few jamming sessions he invited Shazi to join Jal, and togather they went about looking for a vocalist. Some time later Gohar heard Atif singing in a local College Music Competition, Impressed by his vocal range he offered Atif to join the band and to do vocals for the song " Aadat " . Jal's first single " Aadat " was released in Dec 2003. Before the release of its video " Aadat " was released on the internet though a local pakistani web portal. The song enjoyed the status of the most downloaded pakistani song on the internet for quite some time and was extensively popular by the time the video was released.

Directed by Umer Anwar the single burst into Pakistani music scene and took it by storm. Receiving an amazing amount of air time by all the music channels and entering music charts. The video was rated 4th best video of the year 2003 by ARY THE MUSIK within days of it's release. The success of the " Aadat " can partly be gauged by countless concert offers the band received immediately after the release of the song and partly by it's rating to date on music channels.

However, by the end of December 2003 due to musical differences, Atif parted ways with the band while Gohar once again searched for a Lead Vocalist for Jal. It was then that Sultan Raja (Bassis of CALL) introduced Farhan Saeed Butt to Gohar and thus Jal found a new voice. Now they are rocking on all among of us.

Gohar :

Gohar who is 23 years old is a multy talented composer, guitarist, lyricist and singer. As a musician he is influenced by various styles of music; As a lyricist his writing is influenced by both personal and social themes reflective in our daily lives. He is an avid listener of all types of music from around the world; a songwriter who strives for a creative balance between lyrical content, melodic structure and rhythm.

As a young child Goher practiced on a small keyboard the he received as a birthday gift. Restricted by his parents, Goher sold his bike to buy his first guitar at the age of 11. Thus began his ambitious jouurney to becoming one of the most sought after musicians of the country. Having acquired no formal training in music, Goher has strived hard through countless hours teaching himself not only how to playing the guitar, but to compose, write songs and sing.

Goher's life took an unexpected turn right after he took his Intermediate Exams. The accedent had him bed-ridden for 6 long painful months. It was during this period that Gohar could devote his entire time concentrating on his music. From sleepless nights trying to grasp all the notes in a single song and reproducing them on his six-string, to coming up with compositions of his own. Goher's journey has been an exceptional one. He went on to wining countless singing competitions at his college and performing live at local concerts in various fast food restaurants around lahore.

The turing point in Goher's life came with his composition of " Aadat " the single that took the country by storm. With the formation of his band " JaL " and a 10 track album to his credit Goher Mumtaz's journey has just began.

Farhan :

The 21 year old Farhan Saeed is a singer with a distinctive vocal style which combines a finely tuned mix of a classical touch and modern contemporary liberated vocals influenced by a sundry variety of artists ranging from Jagjit Sing's Ghazals to Bryan Adams, System of a Down and Tool. Farhan's vocals present a gently vulnerability and tenderness that he carries warmly through his songs. His love for music became increasingly apparent at the tender age of 6. While still an infant, Farhan spent hours absorbedly listening to his father and brothers practicing on their vocals and music under the guidance of master Ijaz ( A keyboard player and the brother of the well known musician Master Abdullah). By the time he was 9, Farhan was already singing along his father and brothers. Owing to his exceptional vocals and encouraged by Master Ijaz and his family he started practicing on a regular bases at the age of 12. Up until his O Levls from Crescent Farhan only sang among his family and friends. His greatest supports during this time were his two elder brothers, Salman who was a gifted pianist and Haroon a talented vocalist. Backed by his family and inspired by his love for music Farhan continued working on his vocals relentlessly.

In Early 2004 he participated in a competition held in on pakistan, It was here that Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan ( Xulfi Ep and Call ) and Sultan Raja ( Bassist and Rythm of Call ) first spotted Farhan and were highly impressed by his vocals. The appreciation was a big boost for Farhan. In mid 2004 Sultan Raja Introduced Farhan to Goher who was in search for a new voice for his band. Taken a back by Farhan's vocals, Goher offered him a place in Jal and the collaboration resulted in their debut album " Aadat ".

Apart from Jal's debute hit single " Aadat " which was redone in Farhan's vocals, he has to his credits on other tracks for the Jal's debut album which include "Rangon Mein", "Ik Din Aayega", "Lamhey", "Teri yaad", "Manchala", "Har jaga hai Jal" and " Bikhra Hoon Main".

Shaazi :

Inspired by brilliant bassists like jaco pasterious, Bryan Collins, Billy Sheehan, Stuart Harm and B.B King, Amir Sheraz is a God gifted bassist who's been playing since he was. He started of strumming and experimenting with different tunes on his uncle's guitar while still a teenager. His thrust to improve led him to get formal training to play Bass Guitar from the Church he attended in 1995.

It wasn't until 1998 that Shazi Stepped into the Lahore underground music scene professionally. He first collaborated with an underground band by the name of " Wet Metal ". During this time he played in a number of undergroung gigs and local concerts playing bass. However after two years in 2000, Shazi parted ways with " Wet Metal " and joined " Jupitar ". Shazi played with Jupitar for three years and by 2003 he started playing as a session player for various undergroung acts During the one and a half years he played as a session player for various artists and collaborated with Shehzad Hameed's band with whom he worked on a complete album. The collaborating Shehzad Hameed's band exposed Shazi to the rock band communities of pakistan. Shazi's diverse musical sense and his ability to adapt the different kinds of music owes to the diverse variety of musical styles from which he draws inspiration. From local acts like Awaz, Junnon, Mekal Hassan band and Fuzon to International Bands like Metallica, Creed, Led Zeppelin and Weather report. He has always be an avid listener.

Shazi officially joined " JaL ". He is now a full time member of the band and has played bass guitars for their debut album " Aadat " .
