Classical .vs. Technical

I don't know whether it will be appealing to everyone or not, but singers, like me; It is always a hard debate to choose one of them.

I know the best possible answer is to have both. I agree. But in what percentage? We all know classical base is imp for vocal, and that's why we started doing 'sa re ga ma...' from the time even we don't have any idea why we are doing this for. I saw a lot of ppl (even most of my students), they have a quite classical strength but failure to perform upto their capability. But to me most imp factor is to how to use your classical expertise.

If you ask me, I will say 60 to 80% relies on your feelings and the techniques to use it and the rest is your strength to use classical. That’s why you will see a lot of professional singers are not ‘INTO THE MUSIC’ when they perform. I rarely see an artist concentrate on his/her singing and sing with an imagery (the environment needs to be created inside to feel the tune).

For duet songs…oh gosh….it is even worse. They sing a love song without any passion for each other. How can you really enjoy a song as an audience when you find even the performers are not enjoying what they are doing???
