I've been regular on Usenet (for those who don't know what Usenet is, Google it) since 1998. Back then there were no noteworthy Bangla forums or message boards. It was mostly the International/American forums. So whenever there was a debate over religious/political issues, it used to surround religions like Christianity and Judaism. Since there were very very very few Muslim/subcontinental users back then, Islam was never regularly put under microscope. BanglaForum, on the other hand, is predominantly browsed by muslims. So it's only natural that my rebuttals will go against Islam, and not Christianity. On a slightly different note, like most users in this forum, when I was new, I too had the craze of posting and replying to every topic. It was a new phenomenon and everyone did it back in those days. What are you wearing now? are your underwears red or yellow? do you like pointy bras? when did you last fart? omg my gf is cheating on me, should i slap her? There are forums where I have 10,000+ posts in 8+ yeas. So as you can guess, these topics no longer attract me. I got over them in the 90s. Now debate topics, on the other hand, require some organized thoughts and analyses. They are worth replying to. I remember back when I was new, I used to post whatever came to my mind instantly without thinking for a second. Obviously when you say something stupid in a public forum, you will be derided and your posts will either be ignored or given less value. In my defense, I was only a 14 year old kid with a new computer. But soon I learnt to reap the advantages of this adversarial process - something you don't get in real life - specially in Bangladesh. It makes you more tolerant of people with opposing views and teaches you not to open your mouth unless 1) you know what you are talking about 2) you have something worth contributing. Those of you who know BBR or Slashdot or Digg or SA forums, you'll see how so many of their topics are worth reading (even in the off-topic sections), and most regulars make an effort to bring something new to the table other than waffle over nothing and regurgitate. Anyway, sorry about the volume of this post. But I think you get an idea of why I reply to the religious debates. And no, I have no desire to convert anyone. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, however preposterous. Somehow I stopped posting to those. There's too much vanity and very little objectivity involved. | Is Rex ur real name? How long have u been in Canada? Have u always lived in Iqaluit ever since u came to Canada? How do u like the natives? HGOI stands for Hajam Group of Industries. OvI is my vice president. Plural you = the olden members of forum/cafe. Yes, I've debated a lot in my life. I don't believe I know a lot about religion. I've only studied Islam meticulously for years, so I have a working understanding of many of its facets.
