Let's see... favoritism comes from 2 things... (1). Ease of use i.e. user-friendliness, and (2) In your opinion, just how good it is....

Personally I'll take a fully customized and totally configured NAT any day, any time. But until I get to configure mine to the extreme, I'll say... currently I'm using Zone Alarm Pro alongside BlackIce Defender, and it has made my system 99.99999% stealth. There's online sites you can go to check the effectiveness of your firewall. Since ZAPro's newer versions arent getting good ratings, I'm moving on to Outpost Firewall Pro. I've heard tons of good things about it, and simply have to try it out. Kerio's good too, but not as customizable as Outpost. Sygate "was" good, but its going to be discontinued soon, or already has..
Norton Firewall and McAfee are somewhat good... but too expensive to get the Pro versions, and sometimes not worth it. Furthermore, they eat up too many memory resources.
Haven't really used Windows Firewall, so no comment...
IMHO, if you're looking for a good firewall, and don't have DSL or cable, check out Outpost and Kerio...
If you do have DSL, learn to configure and customize your modem's NAT. Simply put: Modem (hardware) NAT + (software) firewall = 100 % protection
And don't forget, your PC's safety and security also depends on the browser you use, and the sites and places you visit.

Every firewall is good enough. Zonealarm, in my opinion, is pretty good too. you can still be fooled even if you have the strongest firewall installed. It completely depends on how you monitor your network. For example, any executable file that is trying to access the internet can be bypassed if executing it from the command prompt because COMMAND PROMPT overrides all firewalls/anti virus. Batch file ( extension is = *.bat) can do it too. You do not really need a firewall as long as you keep your system updated/patched and watch what you doing/where you going. Have a good anti virus installed, thats better.
