ok.. most of us in here know more or less about internet, worms, viruses, security, hacking, cracking... and has several layers of protections for their pcs.. in this post lets share some of our security setup...

my setup is like this

Dlink ADSL2+ Modem Router(i use it in bridge mode with the wireless router with security enabled) + Linksys WRT54GX Wireless router, WPA-PSK, MAC Filter enabled, Block WAN ping, SPI and NAT Protection, Basic Firewall, UPNP enabled

on my desktop, PC-Cillin Internet Secutiry ( anti-virus + firewall + anti-spyware ), pc is always updated with service packs, monthly updates, not only Windows but other softwares aswell.

sometimes if i find unknown programs, dll's are running ... i use google to find the description of tht piece of software.. just to make sure... i am doing ok..

i dont use IE much, probably 2% of my total browsing.. whenever i browse.. i try to read the site carefully.. check it thoroghly.. probably its my experience.. i normally dont have problems with viruses.. i never had..

hacking.. well i dont have sensitive data on my pc.. again.. all of my user accounts has strong passowrds..(only 2 users, administrator and me) .. and besides.. the setup we normally have on our home is not sufficient to prevent if some REAL interesting guy tries to get in

i dont think its protection that can help you but prevention and knowledge...

please share your details with us and experience.. may be we can learn from you.. who knows

My home setup is similar to what JUBAiR has except that I can't enable my NAT due to P2P throttling reasons. Also, I don't use PC Cillin. I used to use AVG but recently I switched to Trustport and AVIRA for my 2 desktops. For my laptop I use Kerio Firewall and NOD32 (testing only).

Router has firewall enabled and I run adaware's latest version to keep the pc clean.

Browser = Firefox. I tried IE7 beta for a while but nothing beats firefox.

No hardware or software firewall
No Antivirus
No spyware remover

What I only use is some common sense and never had any problem regarding virus/spyware.
