BTTB plans to launch Internet & phone service- access up to of 6 MBPs
The Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board has planned to offer broadband Internet and land phone connections to the customers over the same telephone line by the end of this year.
We hope to introduce the service by December,' said a top official of BTTB on Sunday adding that it would ensure simultaneous availability of phone and Internet on the same telephone line. The board will provide the service through using Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer technology which delivers high-speed data transmission over existing copper telephone lines.
The DSLAM separates the voice-frequency signals from the high-speed data traffic and controls and route's digital subscriber line traffic between the subscriber's end-user equipment and the network service provider's network. The main advantage of DSLAM is that voice and data can be transferred simultaneously over the same copper telephone lines by using different frequency ranges,' said a BTTB engineer.
Currently, BTTB provides two types of Internet connection—dialup and Broadband in separate cable available in 41 districts. The board has over 50,000 customers. The board officials said a subscriber would need to install a modem connected to the land-phone line for availing the new service, which the board official believes would reduce the cost of the last mile deployment of broadband service between the subscriber's premises to the nearest telephone exchange.
The telephone board has already fixed the rate of Internet service which Will be available in various download speeds ranging from a minimum 32 Kilobits per second to a maximum 6 megabits per second.
For 32kbps, the board would charge Tk 1,000 per month for home users and Tk 1,250 per month for commercial users for unlimited use while for 6Mbps, the Board would charge a monthly Tk 16,000 per month for home use and Tk 20,000 for commercial users for unlimited use.
