Adding new HDD in ur pc ? ok here i go [ i formated 3 months ago and created this current partition almost 6/7 months ago , so pardon me if i say something wrong ]

to format , i am telling what i do , there r some other way aswell , most common way is boot disk ( floopy ) but i use window 98 cd to format c drive first ... ok from the beginning ... check ur bios section to boot up seeker , it should be 1st boot seeker CD rom , 2nd should be HDD .. if its like this then insert win98 cd in ur cd rom and restart ur pc , it will ask whether u want to start with or without cd rom support . choose with cd-rom support ... then type this cmd " format C:/q " ur c drive will be formated ( quick format ). then it will ask u whether u want to set any name for ur c drive or not . then go to your cd rom drive , suppose X is ur cd rom drive so to go to that drive use this cmd " cd X: "
and then to start setup windows type " setup.exe " . And then windows installation will start , use ur common sence from this part to complete it .

About Parititon , i never made partition on a brand new HDD , but did new partition on my used HDD's . the common things in partition time , am giving below .. go to the Dos mode using win98 cd ( described above ), then type " fdisk " , it will take u to partition area , for already partitioned HDD , u have to remove the partition first then make new partition , to remove partition first remove extended logical drive's partition , like ( D, E , F ) then delete the active drive or main drive which is C drive . and restart ur pc , after it boots up go to that fdisk menu again and u will find option to creat disk partition . first creat a physical drive whick will be ur root drive and active . after u making it set it active , then choose the option to make " extended logical drive " use all ur remaining space for it ... after its created u have to make partition in it to have ur drives . u have to be careful while setting up logical drives and space ... coz in here it will cousin in bytes or % . After u creat ur physical and logical drives u have to format the active drive ( C ) in order to install O/S there .. and then install O/S . anyways consult any person who knows about it before u go through these steps , becoz it might sound so easy but it will make u realtime confuse while doing ... and i always belive .. if you are not serious while working on software , it wont ever give u proper result. Anyways good luck ... cya in cafe .

Hello! Guys,

Sorry to interrupt you...

As Gourab , Timer and other has mentioned about the formatting or Partiotioning, are correct. But, i would like share my opinion with you. Mostly, It is depending upon your OSs, how user -freindly it is...

To Format and Partition:
-----------------------------

1. Can use third party software. (can be applicable for all Windows versions) Partition Magic or others
2. Can use build in features (Windows XP). Right click on "My Computer"--> Manage-->"Disk Management"--> Right click on Your Hard-disk to do the formatting or Partitioning.

Now, which one you should follow:
1. Zero level formatting or, 2. Quick Formatting.

You can do either way...the difference is one is much detailed another doesn't. But, if your Hard-disk or Virtual memory affected by Spyware or Virus. It's better to do Zero level formatting (From BIOS).

Please, Follow the links below for more detailed options:

Windows 95 OEM SR2:http://www.pcguide.com/proc/setup/hdd-c.html

Windows 98 or ME:http://www.buildeasypc.com/sw/hddsetup.htm

Windows 2000:
To format: http://www.dewassoc.com/support/win2000/format2000.htm

To partition:http://www.dewassoc.com/support/win2000/partwin2000.htm

Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=313348

I hope that the above mentioned infos will help you regarding your Partitioning and Formatting the hard Disk.

Cheers...
