Here are all the mascots in World Cup history. It was invented to the 1966 tournament in England. And from then on, each World Cup has had one (or two as in 1974). They have been popular symbols, and millions of people have bought copies of them.

England 1966 -

It seems all the Mascots are Creatures except 3 in a row ( from 1970-1978) ... And personally i think Creatures are betta then a kid or a boy

this sessions mascot is the most gayish mascot i've ever seen in whole worldcup history. also the company who made this mascot became bankrupt. because its a flop mascot. German ppls didn't liked the symbol. its a symbol for UK. eagles is the symbol for Germany. so all Germans was expecting that this sessions mascot will be based on eagles.
