POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- A convenience store clerk is dead after being shot during a robbery attempt in coastal Florida and shooting back at his assailants.
The Broward County Sheriff's Office says it began around 10 a.m. Wednesday when two gunmen wearing masks entered the store in Pompano Beach and demanded cash from the clerk, 53-year-old Borhan Dawla.A struggle ensued and Dawla was shot. But authorities say Dawla grabbed a gun, staggered outside and fired several shots at the men as they ran away. Investigators don't believe any of his shots hit them.
Dawla collapsed in front of the store and later died at a hospital.
Deputies later found and arrested 21-year-old Lorenzo Sanchez and 24-year-old Lavoris Johnson in the incident.
