There is no need to commend the British for making us "modern". They went around exploring and invading the world to fatten their own wallets, not out of altruistic motives. If we were never invaded by the Brits, it would have been the French, Dutch, Portugese, Spaniards, or whoever else - may be even Vikings - who knows!

Plus, Britian definitely does not deserve any credit for bringing us "Democracy". They are still a monarchy themselves till this date.

right... and i thought they were the first nation with a 'parliament' . and speaking of self development, during the time when USA got independence, Tipu sultan was still at his Harem

if british hadnot ruled the sub continent then , there would have been 20 states instead of 3 and there would still have been some nowab / rajas

Brits I hate them for their hypocrisy.I hate the fact that they still interfere in our politics.
I regard the English common law as crap.its way too lenient for offenders.

they fund dozens of NGOs in this country, which in turn are active in our politics;behind the scenes politics.
there has also been breaching of Vienna Conventions.
DW-WORLD.DE - Foreign Envoys in Bangladesh: Undue Interference?

I have some pride, see?everyone does.Dutch people wouldn't like the Bangladeshi ambassador meddling in the affairs of their country.and despite being an aid receiving country we shouldn't let them boss us around.its simply...not right.

http://ec.europa.eu/comm/external_re.../sp/nip_06.pdf

now let me ask you a question.supppose a Dutch national in BD gets himself drunk, kills a man or rapes a woman, commits some type of a crime, can the Bangladeshi court arrest and prosecute him and send him to jail or will he get bailed out by the embassy?most probably the latter.
there is another factor too.the Dutch and other Europeans criticized the way we handled operations in the CHT.yet they took part along with Poland and not to mention the UK in the illegal war in Iraq and their intelligence officers have tortured prisoners.another hypocrisy.

they are always holding seminars about secularism and liberalism, human rights .
