Fellow BanglaForum members and posters...

Please note that this thread is to be used for driving and motor vehicle related experiences and insights only!!!

If you have driving tips or tricks; or some knowledge about how things work or how to fix them easily and cheaply (related to driving a vehicle), please do share with us.
If you have a "myth" busting knowledge about the same, please do share as well... But please, no off topic posting.
Please include the country where it applies as it's not the same everywhere...

For all your speeders out there in U.S.A. (like me...):

If you are 1 among the many who likes to speed and "haul ass" on the Interstates and Highways, it's a great idea to invest in a lidar/radar detector. Trust me, this will save you bundles on speeding tickets by not getting them. Of course they are not 100% accurate, but 99% of the time, they work just great!

There are many detectors out there, giving you the choice to choose depending on your likes and your budget. I, myself, use the Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector. It is one of the best I've seen. Another good 1 is ESCORT Passport 8500 X50. There are of course many more with limited features so be sure to read more about them before you buy 1.

A bit more risque equipment to use is the Laser Shifter unit. This is basically a "Jammer." This device sends an error message to the police gun, giving you time to slow down.

It is also a wise choice not to slam on the brakes as soon as you think you were tagged! This will only make the police lidar/radar gun tag you faster. Simply let go of the 'accelerator pad' and let your car 'coast' down slowly and gradually apply the brakes, instead of hitting the 'brake pad' too hard and fast.

Please note that this is not a 100% surefire way to avoid detection, but rather a tried method by some people I know, and from what they have said about this method. I take no responsibility for the consequences of this 'slowing down' method. It is just a tip/helpful insight.
Of course, there is always one surefire way you can avoid speeding tickets, no matter what technology the police come up with: slow down!

here in bd we don get to pick up much speed like 100mph and so on. but in dhaka u will be lucky if u can pick up 120kmph in normal streets. (im not considering the uttara-airport road :P ) but when i go to Rajshahi the highway is so nice just some couples of KM before the jamuna bridge that it is v east to pick up 150kmph but while going u will sure see some junked buses, cars and trucks

yeah it is dangerous!
very dangerous indeed

as most of the time our car stays with my dad i don get to drive it much. besides i don have a license
i havent drove much professionally but i really find it tough to park the car properly or take it out from the parking basement :P

i like driving

my experience
use defogger or ac when u r in thick foggy road.
if ur boot is loaded with luggage and u r going for a long journey
take out ur pliers and tyre replacing tools and keep it handy :P
i never vomitted in road journeys, neither train nor plane
and i hate it so sensative travellers take some avomin with them :P
be alert
in some places u might get followers
stick to a passenger coach if u r not sure abt the road

tc all

Ahhh!!! Thank you guys for replying! Severus and Ashique, I'm sorry if you misunderstood my post. It's not about speeding or how to avoid them. It's about anything and everything related to driving a motor vehicle.

Severus, thank you for your suggestion about the A.C. I will try that this summer. And I'm interested to know about how to avoid getting into an accident with a rickshaw! I might be coming to visit Bangladesh soon enough, so any tips/tricks will be helpful.
Ashique, thank you as well, for that info.

lol Big guy.
Gari re thela dia start korte hoise kokhono? ekbar battery flat hoya gesilo, tokhon shiksi.
i done it only on manual car.

switch on the key, put the car on 2nd gear, hold the clutch down n tell ur mates to push it... when its moving, slowly take ur foot off the clutch n lightly press the accelerator. it might jerk a bit, n then start.

anothr trick, this one - in auto ( u mite know already)... to get extra acceleration...just befor ovrtaking or watevr..
bring the gear down from D to 3, 2 or even 1 ... this will giv the high gear ratio, enough to accelerate. then once u had enuf of it, push it back to D , u shudnt hav to press the button on the side to get from 1,2,3 to D.
i usd to drive an auto 4wd like a manual. great fun, specially if u hav off-road tyres on road. u could do some tricks as well as damage if u dont lock the front wheels. ,

hotwiring ke ke janen? oita hoilo kaam er jinish. /s

LOL Fanush Miah, hotwiring will land you in a cold place behind bars, where the other guys will call you dirty names. But you're right, it would be fun to know, which wires to cut and rejoin to get that spark!
As for your gear shifting... how exactly.... in an auto transmission car would u go about doing it?
