it depends on the language... which we call deep others call it diya.. likewise its deepavali for us... diwali for others... actually correct spelling is diwali not dewali.... but 'deep' is pure word.. so .. deepavali shud be the original... i think...

actually api boiragir problem ache chokher...tai she dekhini....ki kora...angul diye dhekai dite hoi tare....

Deep is pure bangla .... but diya ? ... is it also a bengali word or it comes 4m Hindi ?

Diya is hindi word ... i never saw it in bengali ... but it is used in hindi songs and names.
