to add to prova's pt: exam/test/quiz is not just to test how much u learned, but it also helps to isolate students based on their performance...so without exams, everyone will be the top students in a class n after graduation, a gifted student may have to fight for a job with a student who learned absolutely nothing from his classes...is that fair???
tammy is right to some extent, that exam is not the BEST way to test one's konwledge...but i think she's only thinking of biological science courses...u can't do good in exam by memorizing math/physics/chemistry/accounting problems...at least not in foreign countries...

btw, i m pretty sure if exams, the way they're structured now, weren't there, then something else would've been there to replace them, so at the end of the day, don't think it'd have made any difference
